The Gods and the Faithful
The people of Dasaria believe that the world was shaped by the struggles and triumphs of the gods. Though kingdoms rise and fall and rulers come and go, the gods remain eternal, influencing the lives of mortals through faith, fate, and divine intervention.
Temples can be found in every major settlement, and even the humblest farmer offers prayers before planting crops or harvesting grain. While some devote themselves entirely to a single deity, most citizens honor several gods throughout their lives depending upon circumstance and need.
Understanding the gods is an important part of understanding Dasaria itself.
The Faithful of Dasaria
Most citizens do not dedicate themselves exclusively to a single god.
A farmer may pray to Ea for healthy crops, seek Nanna-Sin's blessing during planting season, and offer thanks to Utu at sunrise.
A knight may swear loyalty to Marduk, seek wisdom from Anu, and invoke Girru before battle.
The gods are viewed not as distant rulers, but as powerful forces whose influence touches every aspect of mortal life. To live in Dasaria is to live beneath their watchful gaze.
Anu
chief god
Anu is responsible for bringing law and order to the chaos that was mankind. Worshipers of Anu, and especially his clerics, seek to bring order to all civilized peoples. The chief judge of any major city is often a High Priest of Anu, and his temples serve as both courts and centers of governance. Worshipers of Anu hold dragons in great reverence, for after the destruction of Tiamat by Marduk, control of dragonkind was entrusted to Anu.
Anshar
god of darkness, night, and magic
Anshar was one of the gods who sided with Tiamat during the Creation War. When Marduk triumphed, Anshar escaped destruction through shadow and darkness. Since that day he has plotted the downfall of the gods and the destruction of the divine order. Though no government-sanctioned temples exist openly, shrines to Anshar can often be found hidden in caves, ruins, slums, and secret chambers beneath cities. He is worshiped by rogue mages, thieves, conspirators, and others who operate beyond the law.
Druaga
god of the devil world
Druaga sided with Anu, Ea, and Marduk during the Creation War. Though once associated with the earth, he lost that domain and was instead granted dominion over the infernal realms following Tiamat's defeat. Unlike Anshar, Druaga does not seek to destroy the divine order. Instead, he seeks to manipulate it, constantly searching for a way to replace Marduk as ruler of the gods. Executions are traditionally conducted beneath Druaga's watchful gaze.
Ea
god of magic and the sweet waters
Ea is the god of magic, wisdom, springs, groundwater, and protection. Through his great knowledge and mastery of the arcane arts, Ea helped preserve the younger gods during the earliest ages of creation. He is credited with helping create mankind to tend the lands of the world. Farmers, scholars, diplomats, mages, and counselors frequently honor him. The clergy of Ea are respected throughout the kingdom for their wisdom and often serve as advisors, mediators, and diplomats.
Enlil
lord of wind and kings
Enlil is the ancient lord of wind, authority, and kingship. Long before the rise of Marduk, many traditions held Enlil as ruler of the gods and keeper of destiny. He is credited with separating heaven from earth and establishing the foundations of civilization. His followers believe that leadership is both a privilege and a sacred responsibility. Kings, nobles, military commanders, and rulers often seek Enlil's blessing before assuming positions of authority.
Girru
god of fire
Girru persuaded Marduk to grant mankind the gift of fire. He serves as a trusted ally and conscience to the King of the Gods, often tempering judgment with mercy. The clerics of Girru are uniquely permitted to advocate on behalf of those accused of crimes before the courts of Anu. They believe that justice should be balanced with compassion and redemption. Followers of Girru oppose evil wherever it is found and seek to bring wrongdoers to justice.
Ishtar
goddess of love and battle
Ishtar embodies the strongest emotions known to mortals: love, passion, hatred, ecstasy, ambition, and battle fury. Artists, warriors, lovers, and those who live life with intensity often find themselves drawn to her worship. She is said to appear in many forms — as goddess of battle she often manifests as a fierce warrior, while as goddess of love she appears as a beautiful and fertile woman. Her followers seek wisdom through experience and emotion rather than discipline or restraint.
Marduk
god of gods
Marduk is king of the gods, creator of the world, and slayer of Tiamat. His victory during the Creation War established the divine order that governs the world today. He is among the most widely worshiped gods in Dasaria. Warriors, rulers, soldiers, and common citizens alike honor his name. His sacred animals are the horse, the dog, and the dragon. Clerics of Marduk often undertake sacred quests to craft their own bows as a sign of devotion.

Nergal
god of the underworld
Nergal gained dominion over the underworld through cunning, force, and the aid of fourteen demons that accompanied him into the realm of the dead. He rules over death, plague, pestilence, fire, warfare, and the desert. His worship is feared throughout Dasaria, and his followers often seek power through fear, disease, and destruction. Necromancers and servants of darkness frequently invoke his name.
Ramman
lord of storms and rain
Ramman is the god of storms, thunder, lightning, and rain. His favor brings life-giving rainfall and prosperous harvests, while his wrath unleashes floods, hurricanes, and devastation. Farmers, sailors, fishermen, shepherds, and travelers commonly offer prayers to Ramman. He is respected rather than loved, for all understand that the storm cannot be controlled. His sacred animal is the bull, symbolizing strength, thunder, and untamed power.
Utu
sun god
Utu is the lord of sunlight, truth, justice, and hope. His light reveals deception, drives away darkness, and illuminates the path of the righteous. Travelers, healers, judges, and those seeking truth frequently invoke his blessing. His temples often serve as places of healing, refuge, and charity. Many believe that no lie can survive beneath the gaze of Utu.
Many are worshiped openly. Others hide in shadow. All shape the fate of the world.
